Fire Incident: CMA CGM PETRA Caught Fire in the Strait of Malacca (Voyage 0K13NW1MA)
The container ship CMA CGM PETRA (Voyage 0K13NW1MA) encountered a sudden cargo hold fire on 23 August while transiting the Strait of Malacca en route to Lamu, Kenya, operating on the KILIMA Xpress Far East-East Africa service.
The vessel previously called at Qingdao Port and Nansha Port before the incident. Professional salvage teams were deployed for firefighting and salvage operations. The fire has been contained. No crew injuries or marine pollution have been reported so far, while salvage work is still in progress.
This incident has disrupted the original voyage schedule. Cargo loaded from Qingdao and Nansha bound for East Africa (Lamu, Mombasa, Dar es Salaam etc.) on this vessel may be impacted. CMA CGM has not yet released details on damaged containers, cargo loss, vessel re-routing or potential General Average.
